Avant-propos
Cet article correspond au livret-guide d’une excursion de 3 jours dans les Cévennes et le Gévaudan, réalisée du 25 au 27 Août 2021 à la demande de l’Association des Professeurs de Biologie et Géologie (APBG) de Montpellier.
Elle a réuni une vingtaine de participants très enthousiastes et motivés, venus de nombreux établissements de la région Occitanie. Leurs questions et commentaires ont grandement aidé l’auteur à améliorer la rédaction de l’article. Un quatrième jour, correspondant à une coupe subméridienne dans les Cévennes centrales, a ensuite été ajouté. Cette présentation des traits majeurs du contexte pré-Permien du Sud-Est du Massif central et de sites où ils peuvent être observés est susceptible d’intéresser un lectorat élargi à d’autres enseignants et amateurs intéressés par la géologie de la chaîne varisque.

This article corresponds to a guidebook for a 3-day excursion in the Cévennes and Gévaudan areas in SE French Massif Central, carried out from August 25 to 27, 2021 at the request of the Association of Professors of Biology and Geology (APBG) of Montpellier.
The field trip brought together around twenty very enthusiastic and motivated participants, from many high schools of the Occitanie region. Their questions and comments greatly helped the author to improve the writing of the article. A fourth day, corresponding to a submeridian section in the central Cévennes, was then added. This presentation of the major lithostructural, magmatic, metamorphic, and structural features of the pre-Permian setting of the South-East Massif Central, and of the sites where they can be observed is likely to interest a readership extended to other teachers and amateurs interested in the geology of the Variscan chain.
